ARRIVING BY AIR
From Vienna International Airport (VIE-Schwechat), the easiest and most convenient way to go to the conference venue is to take the shuttle bus to the two major Vienna train stations (the ticket is € 6; return € 11). The bus leaves from the airport every 20 minutes (00, 20 and 40 minutes past the hour) in front of the terminal building, stops first at Südbahnhof, but you continue till the second and last stop: Westbahnhof, the West Train Station, which actually should be your reference point whenever lost in the city, because Hotel Ibis is just nearby (3 minutes walk across Europaplatz; hotel IBIS is the tallest building in the area and you cannot miss it). However, due to major construction work at Westbahnhof at the moment, the shuttle bus terminal has been moved to Felberstrasse, and you will have to go around the train station to walk to hotel IBIS from there).
Alternatively, you also can take the S-Bahn, the local commuter train. Avoid the CAT, the City Airport Train, which is a rip-off (€ 9) and only 5 minutes faster than the regular S-train. Take any S-train going to the City Centre (they leave 9 and 39 minutes past the hour) and get off at Wien-Mitte/Landstrasse to change to the underground (tube). You can buy a ticket at the vending machine at the airport train station. Choose your language on the touch screen, destination is Vienna, and if the machine asks € 3,40 from you, you have selected the right ticket. You can continue with this ticket on the underground. At Wien-Mitte, change to the (orange) tube line U3 (direction “Ottakring”) and get off at the stop “Westbahnhof”. This being a huge public transportation hub, make sure you use the exit “Innere Mariahilferstrasse”. Once you surface from the underground, you will see the tall hotel IBIS building.
A taxi from the airport will cost at least € 30.

ARRIVING BY TRAIN:
If you arrive at the West Train Station, that’s easy: You just walk over to Hotel IBIS.
If you arrive at the South Train Station (Südbahnhof), take tramway number 18 (direction “Stadthalle/Burggasse”) and get off at the stop “Mariahilfer Gürtel”, which is indeed in front of Hotel IBIS. Buy a ticket in the station, best at the “Tabak-Trafik” kiosk for € 1,70. The vending machine on the tram will charge you € 2,20 (and you would need to have coins!).
