ILGA-Europe at the World AIDS Conference
ILGA-Europe is advocating for sexual and reproductive health and rights in partnership with COC Netherlands within the project “Prevention and Empowerment in CIS”. The goal of the project is to develop viable LGBT movements in the post-Soviet countries through empowerment and HIV/AIDS prevention programmes. As part of its advocacy efforts, ILGA-Europe has been taking part in a number of international events devoted to sexual health and HIV/AIDS, the most recent being the XVII World AIDS Conference, taking place on 3-8 August in Mexico City.
Before the big event kicks off, a two-day pre-conference “The Invisible Men: Gay Men and Other MSM [men who have sex with men – auth.] in the Global HIV/AIDS Epidemic” is taking place, organised by the Global Form on MSM and HIV ( www.msmandhiv.org). The program included speeches by high-level officials of the World Bank, UNAIDS, UNDP, the Global Fund, as well as many concurrent workshops on community organising, research, educating health service providers, living with HIV, sex workers, etc.
