ILGA-Europe protests against Ukrainian initiative to ban 'homosexual propaganda' in Brussels
Today ILGA-Europe organised a protest against the proposed law in Ukraine to ban ‘homosexual propaganda’ outside the Ukrainian Mission to the European Union.
The proposed legislation is expected to be debated by the Ukrainian Parliament in its final third reading this week and Ukrainian LGBTI organisations appealed to the international community to organise protest actions to put a pressure on the Ukrainian Parliament to stop these homophobic/transphobic proposals.
Prior to the demo, we also received a letter of support for this demonstration from the European Parliament’s Intergroup on LGBT Rights.
ILGA-Europe delivered its statement on the proposed legislation in Ukraine and a briefing produced in co-operation with the International Commission of Jurists analysing existing and/or proposed laws banning ‘homosexual propaganda’ and how they contradict the international human rights standards to the Ukrainian Mission to the European Union during the demonstration.
